How Automated Robotic Cutting Can Benefit Your Project

We are home to the World’s first Esko Kongsberg C66 Robot. Here at Data Image, we have our very own D I, Robot. Whilst it can’t walk, or talk, but it can certainly get the job done… at 100m/min to be exact! Our robotic cutting bed handles sheets, corrugated board and foam cushioning and is solely operated by the expert in all things 3D, our Research and Development Manager, Garry Woodford.

We see this entire process as a real pioneering development at Data Image, putting us at the forefront of new cutting-edge technology, literally!

Here are our top 5 benefits of using automated robotic cutting for your project:

1. Remote control

The robot provides us with an automated cutting system that can be run remotely. This means that it can be working overnight to turn over projects in a short space of time. Something that was never possible for us before! As a result of this, our dedicated production team are now free to be able to focus their time on more diligent projects that require more time and personal care. This is definitely one of the highlights of the robot!

2. Speed

The Kongsberg C66 cuts at 100m/min providing fast completion of jobs and shorter runs without compromising on quality. If you have a project that involves a lot of cutting time, we suggest using the C66 to reduce turnaround times. Therefore, we can ensure that your project will always be ready to be delivered efficiently and on-time.

3. Precision and Accuracy

The C66 can take two 1.6×3.2m sheets on the cutting bed simultaneously whilst the robot is able to pick up the printed materials and move them onto the bed. The technology of this robot really is bewildering. I mean, it can pick up an object as small as a postage stamp with its dynamic grippers, talk about gripping entertainment!

4. World First

Automated robotic production systems are few and far between and it was only in 2016 that the world’s first C64 was installed here. Once decommissioned, we knew that the benefits of having automation as part of our capabilities were more than enough to drive us to buy the first Kongsberg C66. When using this machine for our client’s projects, we provide them with a competitive edge over their competitors; giving them bragging rights of using a world first piece of machinery. In addition, also the highest quality finish for their project(s).

5. Innovation

Having a world first isn’t innovative enough for Data Image. Instead, we continually strive to improve the machinery we have to get the best results possible for our clients. We regularly run beta testing on our C66, and we worked alongside Esko throughout the early stages of the C66 and Garry is still in regular contact with the team at Esko.

In conclusion, we believe that this innovative piece of technology is a major asset to Data Image. Hopefully you now know a little more about our Esko Kongsberg C66 and one day we might use it to cut one of your jobs! To find out more about the Kongsberg C66, visit the Esko website here.
